    Position Summary

    The Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer and dealership vehicles in accordance with manufacturer specifications and dealership standards. This position performs mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic repairs while ensuring the highest level of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Service Technician works collaboratively with Service Advisors, Parts, Warranty, and other dealership personnel to efficiently complete repairs and maintain productivity.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Vehicle Diagnosis & Repair

    • Inspect, diagnose, and repair gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles as applicable.
    • Perform manufacturer-recommended maintenance services, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, fluid exchanges, and scheduled maintenance.
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic vehicle systems using approved diagnostic equipment.
    • Repair engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC systems, driveline components, and electrical systems.
    • Conduct road tests before and after repairs when necessary to verify concerns and confirm repair quality.

    Repair Order Documentation

    • Accurately document customer concerns, diagnostic findings, repair procedures, parts used, labor performed, and recommendations on repair orders.
    • Record time accurately using dealership timekeeping and repair order systems.
    • Communicate repair recommendations and additional service needs to Service Advisors.
    • Complete all repair documentation in accordance with manufacturer warranty requirements.

    Quality & Safety

    • Perform repairs in compliance with manufacturer repair procedures and dealership quality standards.
    • Follow all OSHA safety requirements and dealership safety policies.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
    • Properly handle hazardous materials, tools, equipment, and waste disposal.
    • Participate in quality control inspections when required.

    Equipment & Tool Maintenance

    • Maintain and properly care for assigned tools and equipment.
    • Operate diagnostic equipment, lifts, alignment machines, and specialty tools safely.
    • Report damaged equipment or safety concerns immediately.

    Professional Development

    • Complete required manufacturer training and certification programs.
    • Stay current on emerging vehicle technologies, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques.
    • Participate in dealership meetings, safety training, and technical development programs.

    Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with Service Advisors, Parts Department personnel, Warranty Administrators, and fellow technicians.
    • Assist other technicians when appropriate.
    • Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive work environment.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Completion of an accredited automotive technical training program preferred.
    • Previous automotive repair experience required based on technician level.
    • ASE certifications preferred.
    • Manufacturer certifications preferred.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills.
    • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and dealership management systems.
    • Ability to read technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures.

    Performance Expectations

    The Service Technician is expected to:
    • Complete repairs accurately and efficiently while meeting established productivity standards.
    • Maintain high levels of repair quality with minimal comebacks.

    • Accurately document all repairs and diagnostic findings.
    • Maintain required manufacturer certifications and technical training.

    Working Conditions

    • Automotive repair shop environment with frequent exposure to vehicle noise, moving equipment, chemicals, fumes, and varying temperatures.
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and working underneath vehicles.
    • Use of power tools, diagnostic equipment, hydraulic lifts, and specialized automotive tools.
    • Overtime, weekends, and flexible scheduling may be required based on business needs.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
    • Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and vehicle lifts safely.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform detailed mechanical repairs.
    • Visual ability to inspect vehicle systems, read technical manuals, and interpret diagnostic equipment.
    • Ability to safely operate customer and dealership vehicles, including manual and automatic transmissions.
