    Description

    Shift Transit, a leader in micro mobility operations, is hiring an Accountant to own the day-to-day financial operations of the business. This role sits at the center of our finance function, handling everything from monthly close and tax compliance to budgeting and P&L oversight across our US and Canadian operations. You'll be a key partner to leadership, ensuring our books are clean, our reporting is accurate, and our financial position is always clear.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage monthly bookkeeping, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close

    • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, and vendor payments

    • Prepare and file monthly US and Canadian sales tax reports, maintaining full compliance across jurisdictions

    • Handle financial covenant reporting and ensure ongoing compliance with lender requirements

    • Lead monthly and annual budgeting processes, partnering with department heads on forecasts and variance analysis

    • Manage P&L reporting, providing leadership with clear visibility into financial performance and trends

    • Support audits, year-end close, and ad hoc financial analysis as needed

    Requirements

    • US or Canadian CPA designation

    • Minimum 2 years of experience with Canadian and Ontario sales tax (HST, GST, PST)

    • Strong working knowledge of US sales tax compliance across multiple states

    • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills

    • Experience managing full-cycle accounting in a multi-entity or cross-border environment

    • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently

    • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with non-finance stakeholders

    Nice to Have

    • Experience in transportation, logistics, or operations-heavy industries

    • Familiarity with covenant-driven lending relationships

    • Background working in a high-growth or scaling company
