Sr Analyst, Project Accounting And Capital Reporting - Orangeburg

The Senior Project Accounting & Capital Reporting Analyst supports the Orangburg Finance Workstream Project Lead by ensuring accurate accounting treatment, capitalization compliance, and financial data integrity across the project lifecycle. This role serves as a key link between project execution activities and corporate financial systems, ensuring that all project-related expenditures are appropriately classified, validated, reconciled, and reported in accordance with accounting policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.

Operating within a structured governance framework, the position provides accounting oversight for major capital projects and strategic initiatives, with a primary focus on capitalization compliance, financial controls, asset accounting, and ERP alignment. The role does not perform plant-level operational finance activities but instead supports project-wide accounting governance and financial integrity.

Capitalization Governance and Accounting Compliance (20%)

• Apply capitalization policies across project expenditures.
• Ensure proper accounting treatment of costs, including capital versus expense and Construction-in-Progress (CIP) versus in-service classifications.
• Review project transactions for compliance with corporate accounting standards and internal policies.
• Provide guidance to project teams regarding appropriate financial treatment of project costs.

Invoice Validation and Financial Controls (25%)

• Review and validate invoices from an accounting and capitalization perspective prior to posting.
• Ensure expenditures align with approved project structures, accounting policies, and governance requirements.
• Identify and resolve accounting compliance issues before financial transactions are recorded.
• Partner with procurement and project teams to address discrepancies and improve financial controls.

Financial Reconciliation and Data Integrity (10%)

• Reconcile project financial information across project management systems, procurement platforms, and SAP S/4.
• Validate commitments, actual expenditures, accruals, and accounting records.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies affecting financial accuracy and reporting reliability.

CIP Accounting and Asset Capitalization (15%)

• Support Construction-in-Progress accounting activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor asset readiness and facilitate timely transitions from CIP to fixed assets.
• Ensure capitalization documentation is complete and compliant with accounting requirements.
• Coordinate with controllership and asset accounting teams to support asset commissioning activities.

Audit Readiness and Internal Controls (10%)

• Maintain documentation supporting capitalization decisions, financial classifications, and accounting treatments.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and audit requirements.
• Support internal and external audit reviews by providing accurate and complete project accounting records.

Financial Data Validation and Issue Resolution (10%)

• Perform reviews of project financial information to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Identify financial posting, classification, and reconciliation issues.
• Recommend and facilitate corrective actions to address data integrity concerns.

Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)

• Partner with Project Management Office (PMO), Engineering, Procurement, Controllership, and Corporate Finance teams.
• Ensure consistent accounting treatment across projects and financial systems.
• Communicate accounting requirements and provide guidance regarding capitalization and financial classification decisions.

Skills that will make you successful

• Strong knowledge of capital accounting, fixed assets, and Construction-in-Progress accounting.
• Advanced understanding of capitalization policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA and related financial structures.
• Proven experience performing financial reconciliations and data validation activities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in complex, cross-functional project environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

Experiences that will support your success

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• CPA designation preferred.
• 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, project accounting, fixed asset accounting, or capital project governance.
• Experience supporting large-scale capital projects preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $81,225 - $113,715 annually.
