Sr. Payroll Specialist

About the Role

SBS Creatix is partnering with our client to place a Senior Payroll Specialist in their St. Louis operations. You’ll be tworking with a great team making sure every employee gets paid accurately and on time — calculating hours, managing withholdings, processing deductions, and keeping the payroll engine running without a hitch.

This role goes beyond pushing buttons on payday. You’ll own compliance across payroll regulations, serve as a go-to resource for employees with payroll questions, and bring the kind of attention to detail that catches issues before they become problems.           What You’ll Do

• Prepare and submit paper payroll checks and electronic direct deposits on schedule, every cycle
• Collect and verify employee banking information for direct deposit setup; initiate deposits on paydays
• Calculate hours worked, withhold taxes, and manage deductions with precision across each pay period
• Stay current with federal, state, and local taxation of salaries, benefits, and other factors that impact payroll
• Process and monitor garnishment orders, wage attachments, and other items that affect payroll specifications
• Maintain and document all payroll records to audit-ready standards
• Conduct semi-annual audits of all payroll records to ensure ongoing accuracy
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
• Reconcile the general ledger with regard to payroll transactions
• Detect and resolve issues related to uncollected payroll
  
  
  What You Bring

• Hands-on experience with payroll processing and wage attachment — this isn’t your first rodeo
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting preferred (equivalent experience considered)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
• Excellent organizational skills and a head for numbers
• Familiarity with Windows-based computer programs and payroll platforms
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
• A service-first mindset — employees will come to you with questions, and you’ll handle them with patience and accuracy
• Experience with multi-state payroll processing  
• Familiarity with Paychex, Paylocity, or similar enterprise payroll platforms
• Background in general ledger reconciliation and payroll auditing
• Experience processing payroll for a large-scale financial services organization
