Position Purpose
The Staff Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. Staff Accountant duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs general accounting and other related duties in the accounting department
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
- Provide technical support and advice on Management Accountant
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provide input into department's goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Assists with month end close and board report preparation
- Maintains the general ledger, including account reconciliations
- Monitors Accounts Payable and Purchasing ensuring proper coding
- Process direct deposit payments
- Calculate and deposit payroll taxes
- Process and issue annual W-2 forms to employees
- Properly code payroll within the general ledger
- Assists with payroll coding and recoding throughout the year
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required and / or
- 3+ years of accounting experience required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software; experience with Abila, is preferred
- Ability to accept assignments, follow procedures and work without constant supervision
- Must have the ability to deal with people in a professional manner
- Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
