We value collaboration, professionalism, and a strong commitment to our mission.About the RoleThe National Kidney Foundation of Michigan is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Staff Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, this role plays a critical part in supporting grant administration, payroll processes, and overall accounting operations. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced setting, demonstrates strong analytical skills, and is committed to accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesManage grant billing processes (online, email, and invoicing) accurately and on timePrepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and final grant reports and budgetsInterpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, and foundation grant requirementsMonitor grant balances and communicate with program managers on projected expendituresRecord journal entries and ensure proper general ledger and program codingTrack and follow up on grant receivablesReview wage allocations and grant-related budgets for accuracyPrepare and amend grant budgets, including annual organizational grant budgetsLead bi-weekly staff allocation meetingsReview expense reports and accounts payable codingPayroll AdministrationSupport staff with payroll system access and coding issuesPrepare and manage staff allocations and schedulesReview timecards, approvals, and total hours; send reminders as neededMaintain payroll schedules, including holidays and system setupEnsure accuracy of labor distribution codesManage employee status updates in the payroll system (e.g., supervisors, leave status)Process timecard adjustments, including FMLA-related updatesPrepare payroll adjustments each pay periodAudit & ComplianceAssist with preparation for the annual Single AuditReconcile grant activity and ensure complianceComplete CFDA reporting requirementsRespond to auditor inquiries and documentation requestsAdditional ResponsibilitiesFoster positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and stakeholdersContribute to team problem-solving and continuous improvement effortsMaintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity in all workPrioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines with accuracy and efficiencySupport team members and promote best practices within the departmentQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience with demonstrated success in grant billingStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of MS Office and OutlookExperience with accounting systems and databasesExcellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentWorking ConditionsHybrid work environment (primarily remote)Occasional attendance at off-site meetings requiredStandard 40‑hour workweek, with occasional evenings or weekends as neededLight physical activity (sitting, standing, bending, lifting lightweight materials)NKFM offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:Health, Dental, and Vision InsuranceAD&D InsuranceMileage Reimbursement403(b) Retirement Plan with an employer paid annual retirement contribution of 6% of the employee's salary after 1 year of service#J-18808-Ljbffr
