Substitute Teacher / Science Long Term Substitute Middle School Science Certificate: General Science, Middle Grades (234)

Job Description:

Ledyard Middle School is seeking a Long Term Middle School Science teacher beginning immediately and anticipated to continue through the end of October (based on the needs of the district). Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the successful candidate will develop students skills and competence in one or more fields of science, abilities in scientific methods, inquiry and problem-solving, and understanding of the application of science.

Responsibilities:

• Work in the interest of the students physical and emotional welfare and to embrace a growth mindset
• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in science
• Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis
• Keep inventory of materials, equipment and supplies
• Maintain contact with parents and school personnel as needed to evaluate students academic and social growth
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of people, including students, their parents and staff
• Accept and incorporate suggestions for classroom improvement
• Continue to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research

Qualifications:

• Appropriate CT teaching certification: General Science (034), (234), or Integrated Science (235)
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching middle school students preferred
• Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents
• Success using a variety of teaching styles that facilitate independent and group learning activities
• Ability to organize and coordinate work
• Promotes a positive learning environment responsive to and respectful of the needs of students
• Enthusiasm for teaching and learning

Additional Duties:

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Salary and Benefits:

• The daily rate for substitute teachers is $130. Please note for long term substitute positions (40+ days): The daily rate for long term substitute teachers with certification is $283.49 beyond the 40th consecutive day worked in the same assignment.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
