What You'll Do
Provide advanced inpatient management for high-acuity cardiac surgery patients in a stepdown unit
Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons and multidisciplinary teams
Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound assessment, chest tube management, and surgical drain removal
Monitor and treat complex cardiac conditions such as arrhythmias, electrolyte imbalances, and volume status
Support patient discharge planning and care coordination
Respond promptly to clinical deterioration with effective escalation of care
Maintain comprehensive documentation in EPIC and Sectra systems
What You Need
Valid Missouri license or eligible for licensure
Board certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in cardiac care
BLS and ACLS certifications
At least 2 years of experience managing cardiac surgical patients, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic surgery
Proficiency in admitting/discharging patients, interpreting clinical data, and managing surgical drains and wound care
Strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to work autonomously in a high-stakes environment
About the Assignment This assignment takes place in the Cardiac Surgery Stepdown unit of a high-acuity hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. The role involves providing comprehensive inpatient care in a dynamic, collaborative setting with support from cardiac surgeons and hospitalists. You will be integral to the cardiac surgery team, delivering expert care to adult patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures.
