Tax Associate

Job Description

Position Summary

We’re looking for a highly motivated Tax Associate to join our Washington tax team. In this role, you’ll assist with tax return preparation, compliance, and planning for a variety of clients, including corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals. You’ll gain hands-on experience with federal tax law and Washington-specific tax issues while working alongside experienced CPAs and mentors.

Because Washington does not impose a personal or corporate income tax, this role will also involve exposure to other state and local taxes such as the Washington Business & Occupation (B&O) Tax and Washington Sales and Use Tax, as well as multistate tax considerations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts
  • Assist in the preparation of tax extensions, estimated payments, and tax projections
  • Support compliance with Washington state and local taxes, including B&O and sales/use tax filings
  • Conduct basic tax research on federal and multistate issues using tools like CCH or BNA
  • Assist clients with inquiries or notices from the Internal Revenue Service and the Washington State Department of Revenue
  • Maintain organized and accurate client documentation and workpapers
  • Stay up to date on federal and Washington state/local tax law changes
  • Collaborate with team members in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Utilize tax preparation software (e.g., ProConnect Tax.) to process returns

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA-eligible or actively pursuing CPA licensure in Washington
  • Understanding of federal tax regulations and general state/local tax concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)

Preferred:

  • Internship or 1+ year of experience in public accounting or tax preparation
  • Familiarity with Washington tax structure (B&O tax, sales/use tax, or multistate filings)
  • Experience with tax software such as ProConnect Tax.

Compensation

Hourly Range: $28.85 – $32.00 USD

In compliance with Washington State pay transparency laws, the posted compensation range reflects the expected pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and location within Washington.
