The Tax Manager will focus on federal income tax such requirements will include but are not limited to federal and state tax returns tax provision reporting tax research long-range tax planning tax acquisition structuring and special projects. You&rsquoll be based in our beautiful waterfront office in downtown Seattle Washington. We offer exciting opportunities to travel periodically to our companies in Hawaii Alaska and Florida.Primary Job ResponsibilitiesLead the federal tax return and accounting for income tax processes to completion by obtaining necessary information from Saltchuk and its affiliates. Assist team in additional state and international reporting and compliance efforts as needed.Provide federal tax leadership by identifying issues developing tax planning strategies and executing durable solutions related to U.S. and other taxes.Monitor and interpret U.S. state and foreign tax laws and proposed legislation to evaluate their impact on Saltchuk and its affiliates.Perform research on complex tax issues and write technical memoranda documenting conclusions.Collaborate with Saltchuk companies' finance teams to analyze tax implications of potential new investments andor acquisitions.Identify and implement process improvements and procedures for the tax function.Work with the Managing Director of Tax to manage federal income tax audits.Identify significant tax challenges andor opportunities related to the company&rsquos operations including research and development of solutionsstrategies.Communicate status of assigned work to the Managing Director of Tax. Initiate timely action on technical scheduling and other problems and brings recommended solutions to the Managing Director&rsquos attention.Perform other duties as needed in support of the Tax department and Saltchuk&rsquos strategies.Travel to visit subsidiary companies and attend meetings & conferences as needed.Qualifications & ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years' direct related tax experience preferably with a combination of public and private experience.Strong technical knowledge of corporate federal income tax state income tax and tax accounting principles. Knowledge of international tax a plus.Computer operation skills advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills knowledge of Windows environment and experience with tax return software such as OneSource. Skills in analytical thinking problem solving planningorganizing decision-making and follow-through.Ability to pay attention to detail and produce an accurate and organized work product. Ability to utilize existing procedures and suggest process improvements.Ability to work independently on multiple assignments and under deadline pressure ability to set priorities and schedule work willingness to accept new responsibilities.Strong skills in interpersonal relations ability to work closely with others ability to cooperate with others in a manner that recognizes the importance of teamwork in achieving company goals.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Education & CertificationsBachelor&rsquos Degree in Accounting or related field required. Masters in Taxation or LLM is preferred but not required.CPA certification is preferred.Pay & Benefits
