Technical Accounting Senior Manager

LHH is seeking a Technical Accounting Senior Manager to serve as the subject matter expert for complex accounting matters, technical accounting research, and financial reporting compliance within a high-growth fintech environment. This role will lead the evaluation and documentation of significant accounting transactions, oversee technical accounting policy development, support SEC reporting and SOX compliance, and partner closely with Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, public company reporting, and technical accounting, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving organization while driving financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic decision-making.

Compensation: Base Salary - $135,000 - $204,920 annually (based on location) / Equity Compensation $42,000 - $99,000 / Standard 10% Annual Bonus

Key Responsibilities

Technical Accounting & Research

• Research, evaluate, and document the accounting treatment of significant, non-recurring, and complex transactions under U.S. GAAP.
• Prepare comprehensive technical accounting memorandums with clear, well-supported conclusions for management and auditors.
• Analyze accounting implications related to revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases, debt arrangements, equity transactions, investments, and other complex accounting matters.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders on accounting and reporting implications of new initiatives and strategic transactions.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial reporting workpapers.
• Assist with accounting analyses supporting SEC filings and required disclosures.
• Ensure financial reporting practices remain compliant with current accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation supporting significant accounting judgments and conclusions.

Accounting Policy & Standards Implementation

• Monitor emerging accounting guidance, ASUs, and SEC reporting developments.
• Lead assessments and implementation efforts for new accounting standards.
• Maintain and update company accounting policies to ensure compliance and consistency.
• Leverage industry research resources and best practices to support technical accounting decisions.

Internal Controls & SOX Compliance

• Own and execute key SOX controls within assigned areas of responsibility.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits, walkthroughs, and testing activities.
• Ensure proper documentation and control execution within accounting processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to financial controls and reporting processes.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Compensation, and business stakeholders to evaluate accounting and reporting impacts of new transactions and initiatives.
• Collaborate with compensation teams to support forecasting and analysis of stock-based compensation expense.
• Serve as the accounting reviewer for Chart of Accounts creation and maintenance, ensuring proper account mapping and financial statement alignment.
• Provide technical guidance and support across the broader finance organization.

Day-to-Day Activities

• Researching and documenting complex accounting transactions.
• Reviewing technical accounting memos and position papers.
• Evaluating new accounting guidance and assessing business impact.
• Partnering with FP&A, Legal, Tax, and Treasury teams on strategic initiatives.
• Supporting SEC reporting and financial statement disclosures.
• Managing SOX controls and responding to auditor requests.
• Reviewing Chart of Accounts updates and account mappings.
• Forecasting and analyzing stock-based compensation impacts.
• Ensuring accounting policies remain current and compliant.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Active CPA designation required.

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

• Significant experience within a Big 4 public accounting environment.

• Strong expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

• Proven ability to research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memorandums.

• Experience with:

• ASC 606 Revenue Recognition / ASC 718 Stock-Based Compensation / ASC 842 Leases

• Debt and equity accounting

• Business combinations and technical accounting analyses

• Public company accounting and reporting experience.

• Strong understanding of SOX compliance and internal controls.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and manage competing priorities.

• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical accounting or National Office experience within a Big 4 firm.
• Fintech, SaaS, or technology industry experience.
• Experience with NetSuite, Oracle, and/or Workiva.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience supporting external audits and public company reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated success implementing new accounting standards and policy changes.

Pay Details: $128,000.00 to $204,000.00 per year
