    Description

    This position is responsible for

    Planning, conducting, and reviewing internal audits throughout the Southern Territory on behalf of The Salvation Army to discover weaknesses in accounting systems and possible fraud; audits books and reconciles accounts to determine compliance with established Salvation Army, accounting and bookkeeping policies and procedures; prepares reports and provides recommendations to improve accounting and bookkeeping methods, practices, and procedures.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Reviews Divisional Headquarters budgets, financial returns, and prepared audits for assigned divisions, and prepares analysis for the Finance Territorial Council.

    • Determines and recommends solutions to improve the current problematic accounting situations; determines the weak spots in internal control of accounting, banking, expenditures, receipting, sales, etc.

    • Reviews the annual fiscal closing statements as assigned by the Territorial Audit Secretary; prepares a letter of transmittal to the Territorial Finance Council.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

    Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

    Ability to manipulate and scrutinize numbers.

    A constant amount of physical effort required associated with hand movement, holding, finger dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, vision, hearing, talking, and sitting at least 90% of the work time; rare to the occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching at least 30% of the work time.

    Frequent overnight travel throughout the Southern Territory.

    Education and Experience

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related field,AND

    Two years of experience performing accounting, bookkeeping, or auditing work.OR

    Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Licenses & Certifications:

    Valid State Driver's LicenseOne or more certifications preferred: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA)
