Description RETTEW is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer / Technical Lead to join our Transportation team. Work Environment Hybrid, 3 days per week in-office

Locations: Pittsburgh, Lancaster, Mechanicsburg, or Lehigh Valley, PA

Position Summary / What You'll Do As a Senior Traffic Engineer / Technical Lead, you will lead the technical delivery of traffic engineering services across a range of projects, from intersection improvements to corridor and network-level studies. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and internal teams, ensuring technical excellence while influencing project strategy, mentoring staff, and contributing to the growth of RETTEW's transportation practice.

Responsibilities / Day-to-Day Serve as a technical lead on traffic engineering projects, providing direction, oversight, and quality control Lead traffic impact studies, signal design, corridor studies, and safety evaluations Analyze complex transportation challenges and develop innovative, data-driven solutions Oversee preparation and review of plans, specifications, and technical reports for accuracy and compliance Coordinate with PennDOT, municipalities, MPOs, and other stakeholders to advance projects and secure approvals Support and contribute to proposals, scopes, and budgets, helping position RETTEW for continued growth Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff, fostering technical excellence and career progression Stay current with evolving standards and best practices, including MUTCD, AASHTO, and PennDOT requirements

Qualifications

Required Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain 8+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering or transportation design Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or senior project contributor Proficiency in traffic analysis and modeling tools such as Synchro, HCS, or VISSIM Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Preferred PTOE certification Experience with PennDOT ECMS and project delivery processes Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising technical staff Involvement in client development, proposal support, or business development
