Job Description

About the Role
This role is with a respected boutique law firm in Southern California that advises public agencies and private clients on facilities development, construction agreements, real estate transactions, land use, and business matters. The firm holds genuine, hard-to-replicate expertise in public agency and school district facilities work, and the team includes a partner who is also a licensed California architect. The work is substantive and sophisticated without the hours or bureaucracy that come with large firm practice.

The ideal candidate is a careful, precise legal writer with 3 to 6 years of transactional experience who enjoys real variety across construction, real estate, procurement, and public agency matters. You are comfortable owning transactions independently, thrive in a small and collaborative office, and want to build deep expertise in a specialized practice area rather than cycle through generalist work.

Key Responsibilities
1. Draft, review, and negotiate transactional documents including construction and design contracts, real estate purchase and sale agreements, leases, procurement agreements, and related business agreements
2. Advise public agency and private clients on transactional matters from initial planning through closing
3. Conduct legal research and prepare clear, well-organized memoranda, opinions, and client communications
4. Support contract administration, compliance, and procurement matters for public agency clients
5. Collaborate with firm colleagues across client matters and firm initiatives
6. Manage multiple concurrent transactions and deadlines independently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail

Required Skills & Experience
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • 3 to 6 years of transactional experience in real estate, construction, business, facilities, or public agency work
  • Exceptional legal writing and drafting skills with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Ability to work in the Whittier office at least 3 days per week and work effectively in a small, collaborative team environment

Preferred Skills
  • Experience serving public agencies, school districts, or municipalities
  • Background in facilities development, construction agreements, land use, or government contracting
  • Availability to work in office 5 days per week
  • Experience with public agency procurement or compliance matters
