Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center, requiring cardiology experience and the ability to titrate multiple cardiac drips.

Details

• Works in a 28-bed Cardiac PCU with an average census of 26 patients
• Patient population includes Acute Coronary Syndrome, heart failure, NSTEMI/STEMI, chest pain rule-out, post cardiac cath (PCI with or without stent), post EP procedures (pacemaker insertion, ICD, ablation), arrhythmia management, and vascular conditions such as PAD, AAA repair, and DVT/PE
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; CNA ratio of 1:11–14
• Proficiency required in titrating cardiac drips including Argatroban, Digoxin, Diltiazem, Dobutamine, Dofetilide, Dopamine, Esmolol, Lasix, Insulin, Labetalol, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nicardipine, Nitroglycerin, Sotalol, and Tirofiban
• EMR: Epic
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitoring: Philips
• 12-hour night shifts with a 6:30 PM start, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating may be required to 7 Reynolds, 5 Reynolds, Day Hospital, and 5CC West
• No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1 year of cardiology experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
• Cardiac post-procedural nursing experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Level 1 Trauma designated, 885-bed academic medical center and teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
• CNAs support RNs with vital signs, blood glucose checks, hourly safety rounds, and ADLs; Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, RT (available 24/7), hospitalist, and intensivist support available on unit
• No IV/VAT team on unit — nurses are responsible for IV access
• Nurses are responsible for monitoring and verifying telemetry strips once per shift
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free on-site parking available

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
