Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring NC or compact RN license and prior cardiac telemetry or PCU experience.

Details

  • Community-based teaching hospital in High Point, NC with 351 licensed beds, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center designation
  • 18-bed Cardiac Telemetry/PCU unit with an average daily census of 18
  • Cares for general medical patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic monitoring, including NSTEMI, STEMI, cardiac interventional and EP procedures, thoracic surgery, heart failure, and post-stroke patients
  • Cares for general, vascular, and thoracic surgical patients requiring cardiac anti-arrhythmic drip titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Cardene, Dobutamine, Tridil)
  • Manages post op day 2 open heart patients and respiratory failure cases requiring medium/high flow oxygen or NIPPV
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730) on a 36 hr/week, 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within the critical care division or Intermediate Care unit
  • Uses Epic EMR, Baxter IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips Intellivue monitors with in-room monitoring in all 18 rooms

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Telemetry or PCU experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac strip and rhythm interpretation, and arterial line management
  • Experience with titration of cardiac drips and non-invasive ventilator care (BiPAP/CPAP)
  • Experience with vascular lines, chest tubes/drains, and post-procedure site care (trans radial bands, femoral sheaths)
  • Experience with post-EP pacemaker/ICD and post pulmonary artery thrombectomy patient care
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Supported by 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, Rapid Response Team, CNA support, and Charge Nurse serving as unit resource
  • Positive, team-focused unit culture emphasizing high-tech, high-touch care
  • Orientation includes a 36-hour first week with online CBL modules (Healthstream) plus a 12-hour department-specific shift with an RN preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • RTO requests subject to Resource Team approval
  • Royal blue scrub color required
