Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of ICU or PCU experience and a compact or NC RN license.

Details

  • Newly opening high-acuity PCU at an academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma Center, transitioning to ICU by end of 2026
  • 10-12 bed unit with heavy cardiac patient population including CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath, dysrhythmias, post-pacemaker/ablations, post-CABG/open hearts, heart transplants (2-4 per month), and post-vascular surgeries
  • Patient ratios initially 1:3-4, transitioning to 1:2-3 once unit becomes ICU
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1830-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 50% holiday coverage required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • May float to other units within scope of practice, including 7 Ardmore, 7 Reynolds, 5 Reynolds, Day Hospital, and 5CC West

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience required, with CVICU experience preferred
  • Minimum 12 months of core experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Swan-Ganz and Impella experience required
  • Experience with wound care and dressing changes, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest care, cardioversions, sheath management, BiPAP/CPAP/hi-flow, chest tubes, trachs, art lines, and drip management (pressors, cardiac, sedation)
  • LVAD and post-cardiac transplant experience highly preferred, though training is available
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
  • Candidates residing within a 50-mile radius are not eligible

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to high-acuity cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including management of drips, sheaths, and post-surgical wound care
  • Care for fresh open-heart patients once the unit transitions to ICU, with vented patients expected at that time
  • Support team includes 1 CNA, charge nurse, RT, hospitalist, intensivist, and resident physician available 24/7, plus phlebotomy, PICC team, and remote tele techs monitoring strips
  • Unit secretary will be added once the unit transitions to ICU
  • Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 shifts on the hired shift
  • Scrub color requirement: Royal Blue
