Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and active TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU unit divided into pods covering MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU (39 beds total); travelers would not float into the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
- Cardiac experience preferred (not required); CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op experience is a plus, but fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless experienced
- Patient ratios: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), acuity dependent
- Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) combined with significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
- Must have completed a board of nursing–approved nursing education program
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Prior permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers are not eligible — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), resource nurse (staffing dependent), RT available 24/7, and 3 intensivists on days / 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
- Orientation consists of one 8-hour hospital orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with contract extension required to accommodate
