Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring 3-5 years of high acuity, high risk L&D experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Hospital-based Labor and Delivery unit with 31 rooms/beds
  • High risk, high volume L&D unit supporting all delivery types with 4 ORs
  • Average daily census of 15 patients with 500-600 deliveries per month
  • Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OB patients, adult recovery services for substance recovery, and community care clinic patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:1-2
  • Uses Epic EMR and electronic fetal monitoring equipment
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 19:00 to 7:30
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks based on unit needs
  • Required to work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Float required to Post Partum/Antepartum units and may float to sister facilities that provide Mother/Baby care

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required, must be in hand at time of submission
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, and AWHONN Intermediate certifications preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of RN experience in a high acuity, high pace L&D environment required
  • High risk L&D experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must be able to function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide continued newborn care until transfer to postpartum
  • Must be able to circulate for C-sections
  • Must be able to provide newborn care including eye and Vitamin K injections, thigh injections, and newborn assessments
  • Current Nursys verification required with proof provided at time of consideration
  • Two current supervisory references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years
  • Proof of required certifications must be provided at time of consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive L&D nursing care including assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, hemorrhage/shock management, and sterile vaginal exams
  • Administer medications including anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, and Pitocin
  • Deliver neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, ID/security banding, and neonatal resuscitation
  • Provide postpartum care including couplet care, care for multiple births, and management of postpartum hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Support breastfeeding and lactation, and provide wound and perineal care
  • Perform triage of obstetrical patients and antepartum care procedures
  • Manage pain through epidural anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and opioid administration as needed
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rates
  • Former permanent staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 3 months before returning as a traveler, and must not reside within 50 miles of the facility
  • Candidates who previously worked at any Providence facility must disclose location and dates of employment
  • Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • Time off requests must be submitted upfront during the application process, as requests made after offer may not be accommodated
  • Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities near the contracted location
