Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

  • 12-bed Med/Tele overflow unit (ADTU) supporting all inpatient units and ED holding
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke symptoms, and respiratory issues
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, with critical surge ratios up to 1:7-8
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:6-12
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7:00 PM-7:00 AM), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required to other units and facilities within the designated region, based on scope of practice
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech support

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, and NGT placement
  • Experience managing drains and tubes including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley catheters
  • Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Deliver Med/Surg and telemetry-level nursing care within a busy overflow unit supporting multiple inpatient areas and the ED
  • Work alongside a support team including CNAs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Facility is a 207-bed hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations, without trauma or teaching hospital status
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers will be required to work approximately 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved (excluding holidays); any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
  • Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
  • Returning employees must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
