Job Summary
Join the dedicated Family Birth Place Team at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, a facility recognized with Pathway to Excellence Designation. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive care in a high-volume unit.
The Family Birth Place manages approximately 60 deliveries per month, with projections to increase to over 80 deliveries monthly. You will be instrumental in providing evidenced-based, compassionate, and patient-centered care to mothers and newborns (32 weeks gestation and up), encompassing labor, delivery, postpartum, couplet care, and support for obstetric procedures in the OR and PACU.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to laboring mothers, newborns (32 weeks gestation and up), and postpartum patients.
- Perform comprehensive couplet care, supporting both mother and infant.
- Assist with obstetric procedures in the Operating Room (OR) and provide post-anesthesia care in the PACU.
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings, recognizing and responding to changes appropriately.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and operate medical equipment relevant to labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Educate patients and families on various aspects of maternal and newborn care.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned, overseeing unit operations and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and couplet care. (Years of experience: Not specified, but significant experience implied for a traveler and charge role).
- Experience caring for neonates 32 weeks gestation and up.
- Proven experience in an L&D unit that includes OR and PACU support.
- Prior Charge Nurse experience in a Labor & Delivery setting.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Shift Details

Licensing Requirements
- Current, unencumbered Colorado (CO) Registered Nurse (RN) license or a compact state RN license with the ability to practice in Colorado.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- STABLE Program certification.
- Current Flu Vaccine required.
