Medical Surgical Float Nurse opportunity available in an acute care facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This position involves providing high-quality care within general medical and surgical units, supporting diverse patient needs including chronic illnesses, GI issues, infections, neurological and mental health disorders. The role requires adaptability across medical-surgical departments and a commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence.
Job Details
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts scheduled nights, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Indiana (IN) licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or compact license (effective as of 07/01/2020); BLS certification through the American Heart Association; at least 1.0 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing, specifically in a large hospital setting with 450+ beds; minimum of 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, utilization of electronic health records, IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and management of heparin and insulin drips.
- Float: Float to other medical surgical units may be required, with assignments to areas of greatest need.
- Additional Information: Orientation process includes a 1-day hospital orientation and approximately 5 days of specialized nursing orientation, including Epic electronic record system training. The unit utilizes Epic charting, pyxis medication machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitoring, Hospira IV pumps, and telemetry monitoring. The position involves working in a fast-paced environment caring for a diverse patient population with conditions such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, renal disease, GI issues, infections, neurological issues, and mental health disorders. The dress code is Caribbean Blue scrubs.
- Shift Notes: Night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with three weekend shifts required within a four-week period, and patient ratios typically ranging from 1:5 to 1:6.
