Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Float Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years in critical care required License: Virginia License required or proof of compact license Certifications: ACLS BLS NIHSS PALS (courses must be through the American Heart Association) Must-Have: Experience with iCare EPIC charting experience Description: The critical care float pool covers critical care units. Candidates will work with patients in various intensive care settings. The Surgical ICU mainly cares for patients with traumatic injuries, surgical complications, neuro issues, and open-heart surgeries. The Medical ICU is for critically ill patients with exacerbated medical comorbidities. The Cardiac Care Unit cares for patients who have had cardiac procedures needing additional monitoring. The Oncology ICU cares for critically ill oncology patients and those requiring chemotherapy inductions. All ICU units handle DKA, alcohol withdrawal, and patients needing a higher level of care. Every other weekend is required, including both Saturday and Sunday. Holidays may require scheduling to work. Flexible scheduling is preferred. Applicants must be able to float to multiple units. Patient ratios vary by unit. The Surgical ICU and Medical ICU typically maintain a 1:2 patient ratio. The Cardiac Care Unit maintains a 1:3 patient ratio. The Oncology ICU maintains a 1:3 patient ratio. Additional responsibilities include patient assessments, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications. Candidates should have skills in accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, and central line care. Management of acute stroke, ventilator management, and the ability to titrate drips are essential. Experience with managing patients in multisystem organ dysfunction is beneficial. Candidates should be familiar with isolation precautions, infection prevention, and the interpretation of dysrhythmias. This role requires a commitment to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. Candidates will work within an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care.
