Job Summary
An Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) registered nurse (RN) is needed in Anchorage, Alaska. This position involves working in a high acuity step-down unit providing care for patients requiring close monitoring and specialized treatment. The role requires adapting quickly to changing clinical situations within a busy and fast-paced environment.
Job Details
- Schedule: Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, start date 09/07/2026
- Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), NIH-SS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale)
- Required Qualifications: Alaska RN license at the time of submission, 1 year of step-down intensive care unit, intermediate care, or progressive care unit experience, 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with trach patients requiring continuous BiPap/long-term ventilator support, experience with titratable drips including dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, familiarity with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment
- Type of equipment used: Bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated humidity high flow oxygen, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, surgical drains
- Unit information:
- Number of beds: 19
- Number of staff: 7 registered nurses per shift (1 charge RN & 6 RNs)
- Patient ratios: 3:1
- Typical procedures: Emergente cardioversion, procedures requiring moderate sedation in a procedural area
- Other information:
- Float: Float rotation may be required
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Physical assessments, intake, and output must be completed every 4 hours
- Hourly safety rounds and two-hour positioning/ADL assistance as needed
- Bedside handoff is mandatory
- Weekends and on-call shifts: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month, with delayed start possible during low census periods
