Description:
Department: Cardiovascular Unit
The nurse-patient ratio is 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours.
This unit supports patients who require intermediate care and downgraded ICU patients.
Common diagnoses include cardiac and vascular-related issues such as heart failure and atrial fibrillation.
Registered nurses are required to titrate medications and manage various drips.
A charge nurse is present on each shift, though they rarely take an assignment.
Patient care techs are available with a 1:18 ratio.
Clientist and intensivist coverage is provided 24/7, with additional cardiology support after hours.
Respiratory therapy is also available in the unit at all times.
Nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips.
The work schedule is managed by the unit manager, with no self-scheduling options.
Every other weekend is required.
Floating to all same level and lower acuity units is expected.
The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.
Tailored orientation to unit needs and experience is provided.
Registered nurses must submit all required certifications prior to starting the position.
Cancellation up to 4 shifts is permitted per 13-week assignment.
The charting system used is EPIC.
