Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PCU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and charge-capable skills.

Details

  • Work in a 31-bed mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a hospital
  • Unit primarily supports medicine services, caring for a mix of stepdown and med/surg patients
  • Standard Med-Surg assignments are typically 4:1 and PCU assignments are typically 3:1
  • Travelers may occasionally be assigned a 5:1 Med-Surg patient ratio based on unit flexing needs
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
  • Floating required within the OSU organization as needed
  • Uses Epic for documentation and Omnicell for medication dispensing

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Charge RN experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable managing CPAP/BiPAP and cardiac drip med titrations
  • Charge-capable on night shift
  • Skilled in respiratory care including chest tubes, HFNC, nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and oxygen administration
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and Rapid Response/Code team protocols
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
  • Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy and peripheral line care
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to a blended Med-Surg and PCU patient population
  • Manage cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and medication titration for stepdown-level patients
  • Unit staff are unionized, and travelers are typically first to be flexed for patient assignment changes
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as travelers at any location within the organization
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict credentialing timelines
