Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring at least 1 year of recent PCU experience and a compact or OH RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 22-bed (16-room) PCU with an average daily census of 20
  • Care for an adult and geriatric patient population
  • Common cases include burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, GYN, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgeries
  • Special procedures include burn dressings, flap checks, and leech therapy
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Required to work every other or every third weekend
  • Floating required within the OSU health system
  • Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management

Requirements

  • Active compact or Ohio RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PCU experience required
  • Experience with similar patient population preferred
  • Previous charge RN experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for the second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide PCU-level nursing care including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry monitoring
  • Perform wound care and wound vac management, surgical drain care, and IV therapy including central, PICC, and peripheral line management
  • Manage feeding tubes, heparin protocols, PCA, and IV insulin/titration protocols
  • Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Support patients experiencing substance withdrawal and neurological/psychiatric needs
  • Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed
  • Must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict credentialing timelines
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for assignment only after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for a traveler role
  • First-time travelers may be considered but require manager review before an offer is extended
