Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring ACLS and NIH Stroke Certification for overnight shifts.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting with 34 beds on one unit and 25 beds on the second unit
• Patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Techs available to assist with patient care (up to 3 on the larger unit, 2 on the smaller unit)
• Equipment used includes BiPAPs, high flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis
• Wound vac management performed in conjunction with wound care team
• Documentation completed in Meditech
• Night shift schedule of 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend required per contract
• May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Hourly patient rounding on days and every 2 hours on nights with AIDET communication standards

Requirements

• Active RN license (TN or Compact) required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIH Stroke Certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Critical thinking skills and EKG rhythm interpretation required
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
• Experience with BiPAPs, high flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Experience with stroke and post cardiac cath care
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management preferred
• No employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration (Canadian SSN not accepted)

Additional Information

• Provide care for patients requiring advanced monitoring, oxygen therapy, and drip management
• Perform or assist with procedures including peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, and central line dressing changes
• Troubleshoot wound vacs as needed
• Unit utilizes self-scheduling in 4-week blocks
• Black scrubs required
• Care-like-family culture with strong teamwork on the unit
• Most travelers extend their contract after their first assignment on this unit
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered (no local candidates)
