Web Coating Metallizer Operator

Illinois Tool Works (ITW) in Newburyport, MA (01950) is adding a Web Coating Metallizer Operator via direct hire. If you enjoy hands-on production, quick changeovers, and quality decision-making, this is your arena.

Your challenge

• Review the day’s schedule and sequence changeovers to minimize downtime
• Power up, start/stop, and control the metallizer through its HMI
• Align rollers/boats with hand tools; thread film and set wire feed and line/web speeds
• Watch the web continuously—spot defects early and correct with parameter tweaks
• Run setups to apply metallization; rewind and prepare finished rolls for shipment
• Inspect, measure, and test per procedures; call pass/fail and consult technical staff when borderline
• Clean between jobs (often multiple times per shift); enter confined spaces when required by the machine
• Move materials by cart/pallet; operate a forklift/fork truck safely
• Use computer systems to print run sheets/labels and log production per SOPs/job orders
• Handle solvents under hazardous-material requirements
• Cross-train and support teams; learn product codes, color numbering, and jumbo tag processes

When you’ll work and what you’ll earn

• Primary posted schedule: 1st shift, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
• Pay: $21–$23 per hour
• Facility also operates a 2nd shift (Mon–Fri, 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.). Expect overtime coverage 1–2 weekends/month.

What it takes

• High school diploma or GED
• Manufacturing experience and/or mechanical aptitude preferred
• Intermediate computer ability; precise documentation
• Strong attention to detail; clear written and verbal communication
• Flexibility to assist other ITW ShineMark, North America departments
• 5S familiarity a plus; thrive in a demanding, fast-changing environment

Physical realities

• Frequent standing/walking; ladder and stair climbing
• Reach, hear equipment and forklift traffic, and communicate with teammates
• Lift/push/pull/move up to 85 lbs as needed
• Complete respiratory medical clearance and wear a respirator when tasks require it
• Work on a 100% non-smoking campus—policy compliance is mandatory
