Thomas Biology Department invites applications for adjunct faculty members to teach lecture courses in either BIOL 208 – Biological Communication and Energetics, or BIOL 209 – Biology of Sustainability, during the Fall 2026 semester. We seek candidates interested in facilitating meaningful experiences between students and faculty that empower undergraduate students to find success and to solve challenging problems in service of the common good.

OVERVIEW:
The University of St. Thomas Biology Department invites applications for adjunct faculty members to teach lecture courses in either BIOL 208 – Biological Communication and Energetics, or BIOL 209 – Biology of Sustainability, during the Fall 2026 semester. Adjunct appointments are without tenure and are not tenure-track appointments. Both courses are 4-credit core Biology course (for majors). Course materials are available for use, although the instructor will have some leeway in making modifications to suit their instructional goals. Mentorship will be provided by current faculty with experience teaching these courses. Biological Communication and Energetics is a lecture-based course focused on cellular and molecular biology. Class size is capped at 48. Biology of Sustainability is a discussion based, interactive class focused on the world’s biggest environmental challenges. Class size is capped at 24. Experience with relevant content is required. Some experience leading a college-level lecture class is preferred. PhD is preferred. This posting is for continuous recruitment. Review of candidates will begin as soon as possible. The salary range for the College of Arts and Sciences Adjunct positions ranges from $5,994 to $6,717 (per 4 credit undergraduate course). Rate of pay is determined by academic credential and years of teaching experience. BIOL 208 – Biological Communication and Energetics is scheduled for 8:00-9:40AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester (early September to mid-December). All lectures are in person There are sections of BIOL 209 – Biology of Sustainability available either 8:15-9:20AM, 9:35-10:40AM, or 10:55AM-12:00PM Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the semester (early September to mid-December). Monday and Wednesday sessions will be in person, and Friday sessions will be online. We seek candidates interested in facilitating meaningful experiences between students and faculty that empower undergraduate students to find success and to solve challenging problems in service of the common good. Adjunct Faculty Teaching Responsibilities to Include:<ul><li>Deliver instruction using student-engaged pedagogical approaches</li><li>Provide timely feedback to students re: their grades and progress in course</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:<ul><li>Expertise in the subject matter covered in the courses. Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a Microbiologist that will, among other responsibilities, focus on cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of reusable medical devices in a GLP lab setting . This position in Eagan, MN will execute operationally on customer projects, and will support performing testing, method development, technical assessments and overall process improvement.

Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of microbiological assays including basic analytical titrations in accordance with SOP and protocols</li><li>Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization assays</li><li>Assists with the development of and performs, evaluates and interprets Research and Development (R&D) projects</li><li>Assists in implementing new methodologies</li><li>Aids in report (data) generation</li><li>Performs microorganism propagation, stock culture maintenance, daily culture transfers and organism preparations using aseptic technique</li><li>Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements</li><li>Cross functionally supports the biological testing production laboratory with cytotoxicity, bioburden, and endotoxin testing</li><li>Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of applicable training records</li><li>Assists with the monitoring, cleaning and decontaminating of laboratory equipment on a routine basis</li><li>Assists with the review of paperwork generated by the Medical Device Laboratory as necessary</li><li>Assists with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms</li><li> Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person</li><li>Responsible for communicating laboratory issues and trends to the lab manager and to peers when these issues are discovered</li><li> Responsible for assisting with the completion of all daily laboratory tasks scheduled directly or indirectly to the employee</li><li>Assist the laboratory manager in developing or training new or existing laboratory employees</li></ul>

Skills / Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field required</li><li>Three to five years of applicable experience in a microbiology or related lab is required</li><li>Prior experience with reusable medical devices preferred in the areas of cleanliness, disinfection, sterilization, etc....</li><li>Study Director experience preferred</li><li>Able to become current and stay current with EPA and FDA Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (40 CFR Part 160 and 21 CFR Part 58)</li><li>Thorough understanding of scientific studies in order to problem-solve, develop new test methods</li><li>Able to understand published methodology to adapt existing test methods, develop new test methods and ensure accuracy</li><li>Thorough understanding of governing regulations and pertinent scientific literature to ensure compliance</li><li>Knowledge of the principles of classical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, and microscopy</li><li>Knowledge of general analytical procedures including chemical titrations</li><li>Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminology</li></ul>
