Skill and Ability to: Prepare, form up, pour, and finish concrete in streets, roadways, curbs, gutters, and driveways; Prepare, pour, and finish asphalt; Patch utility cuts in roadways and streets; Construct and maintain concrete and masonry meter vaults and other structures; Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and diagrams; Operate equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, compactors, and rollers; Read and interpret Civil grade stakes; Operate hand tools; Operate power tools; Operate a motor vehicle; Perform general maintenance, construction, and repair on Water Department buildings and grounds; Assist plumbers with installation and repair of water lines, service lines, hydrants, valves and meters; Maintain a professional demeanor at all times; Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; Complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; Perform all duties in accordance with City policies and procedures with regard for personal safety and that of other employees and the public. Knowledge of: Methods, techniques and objectives of water line installation, maintenance and repair; Methods and techniques of concrete preparation, forming, pouring, and finishing work on streets and roadways, curb, gutter, sidewalks, and driveways; Methods and techniques of concrete and masonry construction; Methods and techniques of carpentry framing and finish work; Methods and techniques of asphalt preparation, laying, and finishing; Building trade skills, including but not limited to, concrete and masonry, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, welding, and sheet metal fabrication; State, local, and other applicable building, safety, and health codes and regulations; Federal regulations and City policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of powered equipment, repair and maintenance vehicles and equipment, power tools, and repair and maintenance materials.
