Primary ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the Academic Decathlon programRecruit, select, and retain student participants representing a range of academic achievement levelsDevelop and implement a structured practice schedule focused on all AcDec subject areas (e.g., math, science, literature, social science, economics, art, music, essay, speech, and interview)Prepare students for local, regional, state, and/or national competitionsCoordinate study materials, resources, and curriculum aligned with the annual Academic Decathlon themeProvide instruction, guidance, and feedback to students in both individual and team eventsArrange mock interviews, speeches, and testing opportunities to build student confidence and performancePromote teamwork, accountability, and academic integrity within the programManage program logistics including scheduling, travel arrangements, competition registration, and communication with familiesCollaborate with school staff to support student eligibility and academic successMaintain accurate records, budgets, and inventory of materialsCommunicate regularly with students, parents, administration, and relevant stakeholdersEnsure compliance with district policies and competition guidelinesQualificationsBachelor's degree required; teaching license requiredStrong academic background across multiple subject areasExperience working with high school students in an academic or extracurricular settingStrong organizational, communication, and leadership skillsAbility to motivate and support a diverse group of learnersPrevious Academic Decathlon experience (participant or coach) preferred but not requiredPreferred SkillsAbility to differentiate instruction for varying academic levelsExperience with public speaking, debate, or coaching competitive teamsStrong time management and program planning abilitiesAbility to build relationships with students, staff, and community membersTime CommitmentSeasonal position with practices held multiple times per week (schedule determined by coach)Additional time required for competitions, preparation, and travel (including evenings and weekends)CompensationStipend position based on district schedule B#J-18808-Ljbffr.
