Teachers should have a broad knowledge and deep understanding of the subject matter and be able to:Teach students English and Writing, helping them grow in academic writing and expressionFoster a love of history and help students connect lessons to the world around themInspire a passion for classic literature and thoughtful discussionPresent information in an engaging way with strong pacing and clear organizationDistill knowledge into concepts and principles that students can apply in a variety of settingsCommunication and OrganizationCandidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to:Create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubricsMaintain purposeful and effective classroom routinesCommunicate with parents and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positiveMonitor and report student progress clearly and consistentlyExperience working with students with specific learning disabilities is helpful but not required.
