The Division of Water Resources has a position in our Jackson Environmental Field Office (EFO) working with our great team as well as with other EFO staff and directly with the regulated community in a multi county area. The position will primarily be responsible for collecting chemical and biological samples of surface waters and performing sanitary surveys of public water systems. We are seeking a candidate who has practices excellent customer service and can effectively communicate with a diverse internal and external customer base. Preferred candidates will possess strong time management, and organizational skills. The position requires fieldwork in rural areas, construction sites, and in all weather conditions, and frequent day travel. Preferred bachelor's degrees include environmental science, biology, chemistry, wildlife biology, or related. Preference may be given to candidates with a background in chemical sampling, macrobenthic invertebrate sampling and identification, and laboratory analyses and procedures of water samples.General Responsibilities Include: Collecting chemical, bacteriological and biological samples of surface waters for analysis to assess stream health. Conduct sanitary surveys of community and non-community public water systems to ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water standards. Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for public water system operators, landowners, and local stakeholders, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance. Travel regularly to monitoring sites and public water systems across a 17-county service area using a state-provided vehicle. Accurately document field findings, maintain organized records, and input data into digital systems. Participate in occasional investigations related to illegal discharges, surface water quality concerns, or public water drinking water complaints. Qualifications:
<ul><li>B.S. in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline</li><li>Interest or experience in stormwater inspections, construction inspections, water quality permitting, stormwater management, or permit compliance</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team</li><li>Comfortable with outdoor work, including walking on uneven or slick terrain and working in inclement weather</li></ul><h2>Preferred Capabilities</h2><ul><li>Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Level 1 Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months</li><li>Experience with ArcGIS for mapping and spatial analysis</li><li>OSHA 10‑Hour training or ability to obtain within 6 months</li><li>Leadership experience on small projects or field teams</li><li>Exposure to environmental compliance or permitting processes beyond stormwater</li></ul>
