May also work from home remotely up to 100% of the time from anywhere in the U.S. Job Duties: Work with Geographic Information System (GIS) applications to create and edit geospatial data by performing the following duties: (1) work closely with end users to identify GIS requirements, technical issues, and training needs; (2) analyze current business processes and recommend best practice solutions; construct information technology definitions based on identified needs of the organization; (3) perform GIS data maintenance, manipulation, analysis, and extraction; perform data research, investigation and verification; code and digitize maps and geographical feature data into various layers; prepare projects and data for archival storage; perform record keeping and inventory; document and file data sources and map files for future reference; respond to requests from the client for mapping data; respond to emergency mapping and information requests; (4) prepare, plan, produce, maintain, and update a variety of maps, drawings, plans and other graphic representations displaying layers and attribute data from databases; (5) analyze requests for a variety of new applications, programs and modifications to existing GIS programs; analyze and document user work processes and systems functionality requirements; analyze current GIS system functions, procedures and capabilities to determine if improved methods are possible; develop and present proposals for new approaches and options to meet user needs; participate on software selection and implementation teams, including software evaluation, requirements gathering, work flow analysis and system implementation, testing and training; (6) Design, implement, and test configuration changes in packaged software such as ESRI and Oracle to meet end user business requirements. Test new and revised programs and interfaces to ensure accuracy and efficiency; develop and execute test plans and forward to users for user acceptance testing; create test scenarios; generate test data and keep logs of test results; test and analyze the effectiveness and functionality of new fields and code; notify programming staff of testing problems and required fixes; proofread screen layouts to ensure all system requirements are met; and (7) analyze, troubleshoot and resolve GIS application problems; communicate with internal and external technical resources to resolve end user issues; provide guidance to users on methods for correcting reported problems.
