This is a unique opportunity to develop your career in arboriculture through hands-on training. Our Summer Internships are 8-12 weeks, 40 hours per week, and generally, start in May (start and end dates are flexible based on your availability). Benefits:

As an Arboriculture Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of scientific tree and shrub care, while exploring different facets of this rewarding industry. Your internship may provide the following hands-on experience:<ul><li>Learning and safely performing different aspects of arboriculture, including:<ul><li>Pruning</li><li>Rigging</li><li>Cabling and bracing</li><li>Root collar excavations</li><li>Removals</li><li>Properly maintaining and operating equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts)</li></ul></li><li>Gaining an understanding of integrated pest management programs, including: <ul><li>Property inspections</li><li>Tree identification</li><li>Insect and disease identification and management</li><li>Soil sampling</li><li>Record-keeping, report writing, and client relations</li></ul></li><li>Participating in safety and training meetings and developing professional relationships and friendships</li></ul>Qualifications:

Overview:
This is an intern level position at the LG&E and KU Generation Services System Laboratory located in Ghent, KY. Student will gain experience and exposure to the lab including receiving, analysis, and reporting of power utility samples.  Internship will provide opportunity to gain troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills.  Typically works under close supervision of Scientist(s) and/or experienced Laboratory Technician(s).

Responsibilities:
<ul><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Assists in receiving, analyzing and reporting analytical results for samples obtained from multiple company systems including, but not limited to, boiler water systems, cooling water systems, and scrubber systems; fuel samples, oil samples, and sorbent trap samples. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Maintain documentation/computer entry of daily data.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Prepare laboratory reagents necessary for lab procedures.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Responsible for gaining understanding of compliance with various state and EPA water quality and discharge limitations.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Develop understanding of compliance with safety procedures regarding laboratory chemicals including hazardous chemicals.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in">Performs other duties as directed by management.</li></ul>

Completed sophomore year of college with declared major in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related majorRecommended 3.00 GPAStrong verbal and written communications skillsBasic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
