Categorical or specialist-level certification (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank) from ASCP or AMT is accepted in lieu of generalist MLT certification, but candidates holding only categorical certification may be limited to performing duties within their specific area of certification. Minimum of two years of generalist clinical laboratory experience required; a generalist is defined as an MLT who can perform testing across all major laboratory sections including Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.
