Med-Surg areas include oncology patients who are neutropenic or postoperative, psych patients, general medical-surgical patients, orthopedic patients, and palliative patients; cases include postoperative care, COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, dialysis, COVID, total joints, pneumonia, PE, occasional surgical patients, and general medical overflow. PCU skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, tracheostomies, and IV medication titration with amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, and sometimes Cardene.
