Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with six months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers).
This position collaborates/work with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines within the affiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and the desired patient outcomes. The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team.
Primary responsibilities include taking vital signs, putting patients in rooms, reviewing Electronic Health Record (EHR) to ensure completeness of medical record and assisting the provider or nurse with treatments. The Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) is responsible for assisting in the daily activities of the clinic operation, performing a variety of clinical and clerical tasks in an outpatient clinical setting.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Performs pre-certification duties such as receiving referral on new patients, verifying patient coverage and communicating with primary care provider and insurance company as needed to obtain authorization for initial visit. Assists the center's staff with clerical services handled by Front Office Coordinators as needed such as: Answering the phone, greeting patients and visitors, routing calls to appropriate staff, scheduling patient appointments.
Clinical duties are performed under the supervision of the physician or mid-level provider and may include obtaining and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for the examination, drawing blood and administering medications as directed by the physician or mid-level provider. Job Summary: The medical assistant performs administrative support duties under the direction of the practice manager which may include scheduling appointments, answering the telephone and directing the calls to the appropriate staff, registering patients, collecting and updating patient demographics, verifying health insurance coverage and collecting/processing payments.
