Required skills include port access and management, bilevel positive airway pressure/continuous positive airway pressure (BiPAP/CPAP) management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, chest tube management, ostomy care, cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care, feeding tube management, heparin administration, high-flow nasal cannula management, insulin administration, isolation precautions, intravenous insulin protocols, medical-surgical care, noninvasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, patient-controlled analgesia, peripheral line management, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line management, pre- and post-neurosurgery care, spinal cord injury care, intravenous initiation and maintenance, surgical drain management, telemetry monitoring, total joint replacement care, traumatic brain injury care, rapid response and code team participation, and wound care or wound vacuum management. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, lift teams, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation.
