Assist in planning and directing the operation of the school breakfast and lunch programs for all schools in the district in accordance with State and federal guidelines; Support school administrators by providing guidance on food service policies and procedures; Serve as a liaison between the School Food Service Director II and students; Coordinate the purchasing of food, supplies and equipment; Aid in preparing and tracking the school food service program budget; Develop and administer training programs for school food service personnel; Supervise the work of all lower-level food service personnel; Help develop meal plans that meet nutritional guidelines and regulations; Assist in reviewing school lunch program effectiveness; Prepare a variety of reports and maintain files and records for the school food service program; Ensure staff participation in required continuing education; Support safety initiatives for cafeteria facilities and assists in identifying potential hazards; Oversee and ensure adherence to established program practices and procedures; Implement, monitor and administer school policy regarding the sale and free distribution of breakfasts and lunches; Support implementation of internal controls and inventory systems for supplies, food, equipment and cash handling; Provide input on kitchen alterations or improvements as needed; Engage with school and community members to promote food service programs; Assist in preparing bid specifications and reviewing contract proposals for food and equipment purchases; May assume the responsibilities of the School Food Service Director II in that individual's absence. An Associate's degree or higher in Food and Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Restaurant Management, Hospitality Management, Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts, Business or comparable degree and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
