Knowledge to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine a proper course of action.\n \nReading\n\n Intermediate: ability to read and understand written materials such as newspapers, magazines, journals, multi-step instruction manuals, dictionaries, and reference materials, including police reports, communications, manuals, City Codes, ordinances, and court documents.\n \nWriting\n\n Intermediate: ability to write clear and concise reports and demonstrate proficiency in doing so; prepares business letters, explanations, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech, such as composing police investigation reports, documents, other departmental reports, and other written communication that analyze and convey complex information accurately and professionally.\n \nMath\n\n Intermediate: ability to deal with number systems; simple formulas, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement in the performance of police duties. Must hold and maintain: Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services; Certification in the Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN); Certification in firearms proficiency; and CPR/First Aid.\n Work Schedule requires flexible shift hours (to include holidays, nights and weekends); sometimes remaining on assignments for prolonged periods.\n
