Job Title: Patient Care Technician Profession: PCT Specialty: Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year in psychiatric experience required License: Not specified Certifications: BLS, PCT Certification, De-escalation Training Must-Have: Experience working with adults with psychiatric conditions Description: Department: Psychiatric (Adult) Number of Beds: 26 Nurse to Patient Ratios: Days: 4 RNs (Ratios 1:6-7), Nights: 3 RNs (Ratios 1:8) Tech Ratios: Days: 5 PCTs, Evenings: 5 PCTs, Nights: 3 PCTs Common Diagnoses: 18+ adults, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, depression, and borderline personality disorder Patient Care Technicians are responsible for safety checks, room checks, and vital signs monitoring PCTs provide assistance with activities of daily living and directly observe patient care Rounding is required every 15 minutes Experience in phlebotomy is preferred 1:1 patient attention may be necessary Support is provided by Charge Nurse and Assistant Nurse Care Coordinators on site Physical restraints are utilized only as a last resort Use of de-escalation techniques is encouraged Charge Nurses run the unit 24 hours a day Travelers may be placed in charge roles No respiratory therapy is available on this unit; nurses manage oxygen therapy There is no telemetry; nurses will read strips if needed Travelers are typically first to float to any psychiatric unit Weekend and holiday coverage is necessary Excessive call-ins will be taken seriously and may lead to termination Scrub Color: PCTs wear Maroon Red
