The service serves as a regional resource for information concerning pediatric infectious diseases, and members are often called upon to serve in a public education role, with press interviews and television appearances on local, regional, and national distribution outlets, particularly in connection with new outbreaks, epidemics, and public education related to pediatric infectious diseases and their prevention. The Pediatric Infectious Disease Service provides essential support to a very active solid organ transplant service, hematology-oncology service, a growing bone marrow transplantation service, and a large variety of surgical services that can involve infections, including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and otolaryngology.
