Essential Functions: Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures (finger sticks/heel sticks for infants) on diverse patient populations, determining the most appropriate method based on patient age, health, and test requirements, Adhere to strict infection control and safety guidelines, including proper hand hygiene, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and the safe disposal of all used sharps and biohazardous materials, Greet and identify patients using a minimum of two identifiers (e.g., name and date of birth) to ensure the correct procedure is performed on the correct individual, Clearly explain blood collection procedures to patients to help them understand the process and alleviate any fears or concerns they may have, Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience when interacting with patients, visitors, and other medical professionals, Accurately label all collected blood and non-blood specimens (such as urine or oral fluid samples) immediately following collection and verify all patient information matches the test orders, Enter patient demographics, test orders, and collection information into laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic health records (EHR) with meticulous detail, Maintain an organized and sanitary work station, manage inventory, and assist with ordering supplies as needed, Comply with all legal regulations and privacy rights, such as HIPAA, related to the handling of patient information and medical records.
