The BSD hosts a number of research institutes (e.g., Duchossois Family Institute; Institute for Biophysical Dynamics; Institute for Genomics & Systems Biology; Institute for Integrative Physiology), centers (University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center; Grossman Center for Quantitative Biology & Human Behavior; Chicago Diabetes Research & Training Center) and unique interdepartmental graduate committees structured along programmatic rather than departmental lines. PME is organized along three Institutes, where the Immunoengineering and Bioengineering Institute with sixteen faculty work in areas including immunophysiology, vaccine technologies, cell and tissue engineering, systems and computational biology, microbiome engineering, development of high throughput methods (single cell proteomics, microfluidics, high content imaging), quantum biology, protein engineering, automated and autonomous labs, among others.
