It is home to the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute, the Institute for Arctic and Alpine Research, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, the Sustainability Research Initiative, the SPIKE Center for Sustainability Education, the Natural Hazards Center, the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy, and the Environment, and the Center for Environmental Journalism. The Department's mission is to contribute to technological advances that benefit humankind and enhance Earth's physical and biological resources, to educate undergraduate and graduate students to become leaders in the professional practice of engineering, and to foster an inclusive community that brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
