The role also includes holistic care and support across all phases of illness, including ordering curative-intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression, progression, or recurrence, clinical trial participation, and end-of-life care. These teams are subdivided into the following subspecialty focus areas: colorectal, gastroesophageal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, and neuroendocrine cancers, with the goal of streamlining patient care and supporting clinical trial enrollment.
