Postdoctoral Positions are immediately available to study the underlying molecular mechanisms of viral and host factors in hepatitis B virus (HBV) and delta virus (HDV) infection, replication, and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using novel cell culture and mouse models of HBV/HDV infection recently developed in the lab. Innovative research approaches developed in the lab include mouse models of HBV and HDV infection and replication, robust cell culture models of HBV infection and propagation, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, gene-editing (CRISPR/Cas9) system, cell biological, gene-knockout and immunological technologies.
Projects include efforts to develop digital biomarkers of balance and mobility impairment for use as novel endpoints in clinical trials or as a key component of digital therapeutics for fall prevention, to identify effective digital health strategies for helping adults of every age develop and sustain healthy behaviors, to detect the presence of mental health disorders in young children rapidly at the point of care, and to manage and prevent panic attacks wherever and whenever they occur. Successful candidates will have a PhD or equivalent degree and experience working with data from wearable devices, developing and evaluating signal processing and machine learning algorithms, programming in python, and publishing scientific manuscripts in high impact journals.
The protected research time allows the physician scientist to design studies and prepare competitive research grants and have access to collaborating departments (Biomedical Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Biostatistics and Population Medicine, Translational Sciences). In addition, physician scientists may serve as medical student facilitators, and mentor postdoctoral fellows, medical students, and visiting international medical students and collaborate with fellow residents in research projects.
