Key Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans based on clinical needs Monitor patients using telemetry and other advanced equipment, recognizing and responding to changes in condition Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols Manage patients with complex diagnoses, including cardiac, respiratory, and post-procedural conditions Evaluate patient responses to interventions and adjust care plans as appropriate Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge planning Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) Promote patient safety by adhering to infection control practices and hospital policies Respond to rapid changes in patient status and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care Assist with procedures and support diagnostic testing as needed Perform additional duties within scope of practice as assigned Required Skills & Qualifications: Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple patients with varying levels of acuity Effective communication and teamwork abilities Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; basic computer skills required Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, assist with patient mobility, and lift or move equipment and/or patients (50–100 lbs); includes pushing, pulling, and bending Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining professionalism Technical Skills: Competence in telemetry monitoring, IV therapy, and use of specialized medical equipment; strong fine motor skills Mental Demands: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain focus under pressure Sensory Requirements: Adequate visual acuity to monitor equipment and patient conditions, along with clear verbal communication skills Summary: The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring and a higher level of care than medical-surgical units, but not full intensive care.
